storing an engine
how do i prep an engine to be stored. it's gonna be about 2 yrs before i will be able to drive my gmc. what should i do to prep it? i'm gonna change the oil and it'll still have the tranny attached. any other ideas?

I take it that it will be in the garage where you will be working on your truck. Just take out plugs and squrit some oil in each hole. Then every 2 or 3 months turn engine about 1/4 turn--this will change which valve spring is compressed. Should be fine.

if it's running, slowly pour a quart of transmission fluid down the carb, adding a little at a time, keeping it at about 1500-2000 RPM, till the fluid fouls all the plugs and kills the engine....it will keep forever. Next time you start it, it will smoke like a freight train for awhile, but will clear up.

Fogging or oiling the cylinders is good advice. Also, back off all the rockers during storage. This will prevent any moisture from entering the combustion chamber from the exhaust or intake and will also prevent any collapsed or lazy lifters when you restart. Eastwood also offers some deals to replace the spark plugs that will keep the air dry in the combustion chambers (dessicant plugs).
