Temp Gauge ? - Simple

This is a newbie + first time trying this + out of daylight question.

I have a temp gauge in the lower, right-most spot on my 69 blazer. I've been able to remove the nut holding on the sending tube. At this point, is it really 3 screws holding the gauge in place, from the rear, as the service manual implies.

I"m quoting 'Oil and/or Air Pressure Gauge Replacement' on page 12-14 on a reprinted manual:

"Remove three (3) rear cover retaining screws. Tip cover and gauge assembly and remove from instrument cluster housing."

That is correct. Upon reinstalling use caution to not cross thread the copper line. Or prepare for oil leakage.

The best of my knowlege you have to remove the whole cluster to remove it. I have been wrong before and if I am some one will correct me I'm sure!!!!

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I think andy's right. I've always had to remove the inst cluster, take the face plate off, then unscrew the gauge from behind.

I had originally thought that I need to remove the backing plate screws first, but, from these responses, it seems to me that my problem may simply be that the oil pressure tube is stuck in the back of the gauge?

Does that seem correct to anyone?

At the moment, I'm just trying to remove the instrument cluster. Once that's out, I'd like to remove the gauge. I didn't think that I had to pull the gauge out, first, in order to remove the cluster.

None of this is very clear. You keep jumping from one to the other. The oil line has to be removed for the cluster to come out as does the speedo cable and wiring harness and ground.
The oil line has nothing to do with the Temp gauge, except it is inside the same part of the cluster. You may beable to take the backside of it off but with the oil line hooked up it's going to be pretty hard to do.

You are right - I am jumping around a bit. Please let me restate.

I am trying to remove the instrument cluster on a 1969 Chevy. Currently, the last piece holding it in is the oil pressure gauge in the right-most spot. I have removed the 9/16 nut that seems to secure the back of the gauge to the the copper(?) line coming from the sensor. Should I be able to remove the line from the back of the gauge, now? Have I reached a point where penetrating oil and force are what is required?

Alternatively, I was thinking of trying to remove the backing plate, leaving the gauge connected to the line, so that I could have the instrument cluster assembly free, leaving me more room to work on removing the gauge.

I have a reproduction under-dash wiring harness that I need to install for a variety of reasons (previous owner's CB removal, mice, attempted hot-wire, etc).

I have left the oil pressure part of the gauge installed while removing the rest of the cluster before so it can be done. Just unscrew the screws that hold the access plate to the rest of the cluster. I did this so I could still run the truck while I installed an alarm system with out getting oil all over the place when the motor was running. It is nice to have the option of moving the truck if you need to while working on it, then you don’t have to buy a cap off fitting.
