Low or High Hump with stock350/TH400
Hi, I have a stock 350/TH400 combo (from a 1971 c/30 donor truck) to put in my 1971 C/10. My cab have presently a low hump. Is it necessary to change for a High hump to fit the engine/tranny? Thank's

My '68 is the same combo and it a low hump. From what I recall, auto's were low hump, manual's were high hump, at least from the factory. Who knows what's been swapped over the years.

4x4 trucks, 4 speeds, and big bloxks with automatic... those were the only stock trucks supposed to have a high hump.
So yes, your small block/auto will be fine. Sometimes an odd ball rolled off the assembly line for unknown reasons. i had a 69 GMC, was a V6/TH400... had the high hump. |

hmmm got me thinking now... Any idea if a 454/400 will need the high hump? I'm using the 72 only mounts and the truck currently has the I6 w/3OTT....

Re: Low or High Hump with stock350/TH400
if you have good cab mounts, it'll probably work, many have done it.
However, i have found excessive heat radiates through the floor when it is that close. My caddy engine places the TH350 about 1/4 inch from the pinchweld on my floor. It is not uncommon for my floor boards to be 125 degrees in the summer. |

ewwwwww I'll already have a hot foot when I fire it up - don't really need the extra heat! I'll be wrapping my headers to help a bit with the underhood heat - I wonder if there'll be enough room to perhaps put an aluminum heat sheild over the tranny, standing off from the floor.... we'll see.
