Re: Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yo! Lots of welcomes, but sounds like you need advise. First, lets see those pics of how much rust and how big the holes are. I fix alot of small stuff with a two part polyesther bodyfill and use aluminum window screen as a matrix,...70,000 road miles on my '68 Mustang's rear quarter have not caused THAT repair to crack, split, or peel. Cheap, but effective, Martin Senour products sold by NAPA have allowed me to repair a number of roaded cars I have without failure over a long period. Steel panel replacement is the proper repair, but not all of us can afford that, especially if it's a roaded vehicle, or we can't sink that much change into the repair right now! This can preserve what you've got until you can afford a welded repair, or until you drive the vehicle into the ground, which ever comes first! Here, we're talking trucks, usually trucks less that thirty-five years of age, and I doubt if anyone is out to sell a restored 4x4 for a profit,...but you can fix it to be rustfree and weathertight! Repaired the floors and door w/strip flange in my '78 3/4 ton 4x4 and have sequential pics.
AND by the way,...welcome! Todd. Last edited by asphaltburner; 08-02-2008 at 01:42 AM. |

Re: Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really depends on how bad the floor is rusted and what your plans are for the truck.
Ideally the repair would be made by welding in patch panels, but I have seen floors repaired with sheetmetal with pop rivets or fiberglass. My son cut the whole floor out of his wifes truck and replaced it because he is going to make it a show truck. Like said before if we can see pictures we will know better how to help you. Danny

Re: Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shyguy is correct,...what is your intent with the truck? If it's a field truck, do nothing! Intend on keeping it for awhile, preserve the existing metal,...a long while, driving,...preserve and weatherproof. If you're going to show the truck, or make it a keepsake, weld in floorpanels. Also depends on the size of the holes and how much rust you're dealing with. In most cases, you'll want to preserve the remaining metal and weatherproof the floors. Todd.

Re: Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, pictures will definately help. I have seen several people, many of whom post on our boards work miracles with very rusty parts. So, just because there is a lot of rust, it does not mean that it is hopeless to repair with patch work. However, it the rust is real bad, it may be easier to buy and use the larger prefab-panels. But hey! Post some pics...it'll help.

Welcome form up the the road again (Lubbock). Lets see the pics of the rust. I have at least 6 cabs that need rockers and corners if you decide to change cabs.
