found a T5... got some questions

I'm going from a SM465 to the 5-speed, so everything is pretty much straightfoward. I'll use my 4spd bellhousing so I'll keep my mechanical clutch. A new 10.4" clutch kit is on it's way to adapt the 26 spline input shaft. So my questions go out back to the output shaft.

I can't use my current yoke correct? I've found that T5's are 27 spline, but I can't find what SM465s are. If not, what yokes will work?

As far as driveshaft goes, what should I do there? I know it has to be shortened quite a bit (actually I'm gonna get a new one made) I just don't know what style u-joints it's using now. All I know is the rear end is a 10 bolt out of a 80s 1/2 ton.

Thumbs up Re: found a T5... got some questions

GMC , go to www.inliners.org , You can find lots of info there on T5 swaps . In fact , they have a T5 page which is very informative ! Check it out , Good Luck ! P.S. - Congrats on finding a T5 as I've been looking for one for a long time with no luck so far ! I'm not giving up though .

Re: found a T5... got some questions

thanks for the link. After doing more research, I found the HAMB had A LOT of info too.

So tell me if i'm right, 27 spline yokes were used on GM's, 28 on Fords. So I can use any tranny yoke from a TH350, M-21, PG, T10, 4l60, T56, ect. right?

Now, I'm still confused on what u-joint style to use.

Re: found a T5... got some questions

Dont know if this helps, but....

What is the difference between 1310, 1330 and 1350 Series?

The "series" of a driveshaft or universal joint is determined by the actual dimensions of the u-joint. While the front and rear u-joint can be of two different sizes the shaft is only as strong as the smaller one. The 1310 series u-joint measures approximately 3 1/4 inches wide. The 1330 and 1350 both measure approximately 3 5/8 wide. The 1310 and 1330 series can have cap diameters of 1 1/16 and/or 1 1/8 inch or a combination of both sizes. The 1350 series has a cap diameter of 1 3/16 inch and the body and journals are bigger than the 1310 or 1330. Remember 1350 is almost never found in production car driveshafts.

Re: found a T5... got some questions

that's exactly what I needed to know, thanks a bunch.

So first, I need to measure my current rear u-joint and match the series to a front yoke so I can keep my current rear end yoke and use one type of u-joint on the driveshaft. I know it's a mouthfull, but I think I got it now.
