Hi All,

I finally broke down and decided it was time to rebuild the motor and trans.
They are the originals with the ODO reading (1)20,000. Matching numbers to the protecto plate. I am going with a B&M shift kit and H.D. torque converter.

I want to have th motor balanced and add an R.V. cam. up the compression and go to electronic distributor. I also want to go with a new water pump and fuel pump.

Sorry about being long winded.... My question to the professionals..can you give me some recommendations as to manufacturer and model of some of the motor parts I should go with. Its just a weekend cruiser, no rock climbing or bog running, or 1/4 miles.... : )

Clevite bearings

Keith black pistons, Hypereutectic (sp?)

Edelbrock intake

Vortec heads (that's just me though FYI, the new heads probably wont be too much more than getting your old ones rebuilt

I'd probably keep using the q-jet but alot of people go with the edelbrock 600 or holley truck avenger 670

New harmonicbalancer as well

Comp cams 256 cam
You'll get 300+hp with this combo and it will be a nice cruiser also.

Nice pics., thanks for sharing. Always cool to see them brought back. Can't imagine how many of us has that same green color. I'd just freshen everything up and put it back together (worked for the first 120,000 miles)

I bought a GMPP 260hp 350 and am just about ready to fire it up. I've seen this motor run and it's great. I couldn't pass up the $1,500 price tag and certainly couldn't pass on the reliability factor. I too pondered the buy/rebuild question, but when it was all said and done, this was the way to go. I like the suggestion for the Vortec heads, but you'll have to change your valve covers as well as the intake. I am a fan of the Quadrajet, so I'd rebuild it if it's in decent shape. I also like the GM factory HEI. They work great and you can usually pick one up pretty cheap.

From what I've heard, those Vortecs are a good way to go as mentioned above. There are some pretty helpful members over in the engine & drivetrain forum that can also give you some great advice on your question.

Be sure to document and keep us posted as you proceed! As you know, we all like lots of pics, so that is never a problem!!

Hi and thanks so far.... I think that I'm going to stick with the stock heads and intake, maybe beef up and balance the internals. Factory HEI sounds good Ill look in that. Ill keep you posted!!

You'd have to cank the longhorns also if you went with the vortecs, from what I hear.
