New Wiring Harness
Does anyone have any recommendations on the best place to get a new wiring harness from for my '65? The wiring in my truck is so dilapitated that I'm just going to replace the whole of it.

Re: New Wiring Harness
American Autowire's Classic Update kit worked well for me. It gives many extra circuits for power upgrades like AC, power locks, etc. Pretty easy to install...good instructions.... did it myself and I am no electrical expert. Rating= A to A+.

Re: New Wiring Harness
I used a Painless Wiring harness in my street rod. Went in real easy. I'm currently doing a frame off Restro-rod on a '64 GMC SWB, on it I'm planning on using a harness from American Autowire. Comes with all switches and grommet's, but it's pricey.
Good Luck |

Re: New Wiring Harness
If you want to go with "original" type wiring harnesses check out M&H Wire Harness Company. M&H Website Link
I did for most of my harness components. Looking back i should have just went with aftermarket kit. But M&H would definately be an easier install if thats what your looking for. |

Re: New Wiring Harness
I used an E-Z wiring harness. It was about $165, for the price its a decent product. Some don't like it because its cheap, I installed mine 3 years ago and I thinks its a good product.

Re: New Wiring Harness
If you want the original harnesses go through the Truck and Car Shop.... Heres the online catalog and the harnesses are on pages 104-106

Re: New Wiring Harness
For factory fit wiring harnesses, try:
www.classicparts.com www.lmctruck.com www.bowtiebits.com www.oldchevytrucks.com I prefer factory equipment, so I chose to go this route instead of the many aftermarket harnesses available. |

Re: New Wiring Harness
Another vote for the American Auto Wire Classic Series kit. Very easy to understand - I had never wired a vehicle before and it went very smooth - two years of driving and no problems related to the wiring kit.

Re: New Wiring Harness
I was thinking about using the Summit harness. It is not a direct fit and will take some doing to install. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=SUM-890021 $229 for the 18 circut harness. I am still up in the air about it though.

Re: New Wiring Harness
I also used an ez harness, I like it, seems to be pretty good quality and everything is well marked. Thier customer service leave alot to be desired, but a good harness.

Re: New Wiring Harness
I went with a painless harness from summit. I actually liked the fact that it wasn't direct fit. It allowed me to route some of the more visible wires the way I wanted too...hidden and out of the way. The harness is good qualiity, well labeled, and the instruction made sense for the most part. Horn relay is on the fuse block. Comes with a bunch of extra stuff like thick ga. wire and a 50amp maxi fuse for one wire alt. (I put the fuse on the main feed line to protect the whole harness). You can also pull it out along with the coil fuse for security purposes. Even comes with a connector for late model steering columns. Comes with a bunch of extra fuses and connectors too. as all the gromets you need (since it does away with firewall connectors).
I also used painless's wire loom (powerbraid I think?). Cool stuff. |
