bed leveling
Need to find out answers to a couple questions, installed new bed in my 1969 and was trying to level it out and wanted to know what others used, like washers or blocks, also at the rear near the tailgate there are two holes on both sides of the back one is threaded the other not, what were these holes for and what if anything did you do with them. Thanks for any help

Re: bed leveling
Very good question, one I have never seen before.
I guess it depends on how well you want to do it and how much is needed for leveling. I have seen people use pieces of wood, body shims, washers, pieces of rubber, metal flat stock, square tubing and such. When we put the newer step bed on my '67 we used rubber between the metal and square tubing. I am not sure what the holes are for, hopefully some one else will respond. Danny

Re: bed leveling
Truthfully, other than a flat rubber insulation piece, there are no adjustments for the bed. Those mounts are designed for direct solid mounting. If you are trying to align it top the cab, it is the cab that is adjusted (or supposed to be) to get your alignment.
Since I am at work and not at the shop I am not real positive about the bolt hol differences you're explaing. It also will help to know if it is a fleetside or stepside bed.

Re: bed leveling
sorry, it is a step side. The holes are in back of the bed at both sides of the tail gate. Not on the tail gate but at the back.

Re: bed leveling
I am real new at working on the bodies of these old trucks so if the cab is the one aligned and not the bed then the front clip will also have to be aligned to the cab once the cab is aligned to the bed to make the fender gap to the cab right.
My son is trying to put his truck back together after a frame off restoration and is having alignment problems that is the reason I am asking. I am sure glad I found this site, it sure helps when working on these old trucks to have the information from more experienced people than myself. Danny

Re: bed leveling
I HAD TO PULL UP SOME OLD PHOTOS, BUT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THESE 2 HOLES THAT i CIRCLED?
If so, they are used to hold in the rear bed cross piece. I think it was also tack welded besides these bolts. Oh yeah, I am not hollering, I am just to lazy to retype.
