My '64 project

Here are some pictures for you guys of my '64 LWB pickup. I got the 250 L6 in this week and started it up today. I'm a high school kid earning money when I can, so this is a really low budget build but I think its going pretty well. The truck was a $400 truck I found in the paper with no title. This truck got put on the backburner while I worked on my '69 C-20 with my dad. Dad helped with the first one, but I'm completely on my own with this one.

At this point, the bed is gone. I'm going to build a flatbed for it. I'm going to use the stock bed rails, and build a 2x4 steel frame for the perimeter, with a wood plank bed. And have '59 Caddy taillights out back.

I've been doing some body work while saving money for mechanical stuff. I have the bumper bolts shaved, the mirror holes shaved, one fender is finished(lower patch panel, trim holes shaved), floors are slowly being patched, and I've been working on pinstriping. It will all get painted Hot Rod Flatz Copper Metallic with a gloss white or cream of some sort for the grill and interior, and maybe the roof too.

For the interior, I got a 60/40 split bench out of an early 90's Chevy pickup for $30 at the salvage yard(whatever you can carry on a wheelbarrow) that I have mounted. I'll throw a zarape blanket over them to fit the theme a little better. Everything will be painted gloss white.

The motor is a $300 250 L6 I found on craigslist from another member of this site. It runs perfect. Couldn't be happier with it. Transmission is and will be the stock three speed. Eventually I would like to hot rod the six, but that will come later on down the road(lump port and milled head w/ sbc valves, comp 260H cam, Offy water-heated intake w/ 4 bbl carb, 307 pistons...).

I'm sticking with the drum brakes, but I will put a dual-circuit master cylinder in it. The front will get all new ball joints, tie-rod ends, etc. and 3" drop springs. The rear will likely get a 3" drop as well(I want some rake) along with an adjustable track bar.

For wheels I will run the cheap steel wheels that are on it now, with some Moon discs. Eventually I want some steel smoothies, painted to match the grill and interior, with a beauty rings and baby moon hubcaps.

Let me know what you think of my progress so far, and of my plans! I'm open to any suggestions or recommendations you guys have to offer!

Cool project you have there. It sounds like you have a pretty solid plan and have already made some good progress with it. I've gotta ask though, what happened to the bed?

If it wasn't for the wheels that first shot would look like one of those GM pr shots.

The bed was too far gone to save. Really, the cab is too, but I'll see what I can do with it. Thanks for the compliments everybody!

Just keep workin at it. the only thing original on my truck anymore is the frame, most of the suspension, and the grille.
