Got a leak

I have a 1984 short bed and I have a leak on the drivers side. It seems be leaking down thru the dash on the very far left and dripping down right about where the door jam is. I can't get down there and see up enough to see where it is coming from, and of course it is raining when it is leaking. I don't know if it is coming from the vents at the windshield wipers or what. If anybody has any ideas let me know please.

Re: Got a leak

Are you sure its not coming from the open wing window

Check around your windshield rubber. Make sure the rubber is in good condition. Also check to make sure someone removing the window didn't dent the steel around the rubber like they did on mine

What about the vents located in front of the door? I have seen leaks there before.

No it is not coming from the window, I just had the windshield replaced and it did not look like it was leaking through there but that could be one of those things you just cant see. I might need to just pour some water on the windshield gasket a little at a time and see if it leaks. Hey good idea go do it.

Re: Got a leak

I had the front windshield to leak once and it ran inside behind the dash and down the kick panel and wet the carpet. the weatherstrip had a small gap in it. look around the weatherstrip for a hole. hope that helps...

Re: Got a leak

Was it leaking before the replacement. Did they fill the weep holes up with urethane when they installed the new windshield

I honestly don't know if it was leaking before I just got it and that was one of the first things I did. I know they did not fill no holes with no urethane.

Re: Got a leak

Look at the underside of your cowl. That area is coated with a seam sealer and it tends to dry out. As it does the cracks form and them the water gets down into the body parts and works into the cab. I have resealed mine once. This is not an easy or clean job.

Re: Got a leak

I went to my body shop buddies and got a tube of 3-M seam sealer and by the time I was done, I had tore it open and puttied everything under the cowl that I could reach. The areas under the ends is absolutley painful, but I managed to get there by reaching in through the openings and using a long flat bar made into a putty knife.

OH and by the way, tie off the bar to your wrist. If you drop it, it could drive you nuts when it rattles in the kick panels.
