A few general questions about a 77'

Hi all

I was able to acquire my friends 77 gmc he bought last year for parts. It is a 77 lwb 2wd with a 454,tilt cruise,pw/pl etc etc

I am looking into swapping as many of the "goodies" from it onto my 86'.

I am allready aware i can not use the tilt column, and was led to believe the pw/pl doors assemblies would fit with no hassles.

I was wondering if the pw/pl with the doors would actullay fit with no problems and what i might actually need to do to get them to operate properly.

I was also wondering what kinda' compression a 77' 454 would have.I was told by a local gm paarts counterman around 8:1?

I also have to figure out the drivehaft length of said setup.i was hoping that somebody would have a similiar setup/situation that had a demension that i could get the driveshaft cut to fit my 86.

any and all help would be Greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

the power windows and locks will fit.

8:1 is pretty accurate. I can find out exactly what it should have if you really wanna know. but its about 8:1 (7.5-8.5 and 1)

what kind of transmission and rear axle do both trucks have? We need to know that to figure out if the driveshaft will work

Thanks for the response!

The 77 lwb has a 12 bolt,my 86 has a 10 bolt.I was thinging of swapping the 12 bolt in as well if need be.

The transmission in the 86 at the moment is a sm-465,the one behind the 454 is a th400.

Thanks

the th400 is much longer than the sm465... Does your sm465 truck have a 2-peice driveshaft? I bet it does.. what about the th400 truck?

The 86 gmc with the sm465 does have the 2 piece driveshaft, the 77 i believe has a 1 piece unit.
