Original Mounting of Rear 4X4 Axles
Does anyone have pics of a factory original setup for the rear axle on a 67-72 4X4? I'm looking for how the springs and axle are attached. Lift blocks, no lift blocks, wedges for pinion angle, etc. Both of mine have been modified in the past and I'm not sure what is actually supposed to be in there. My GMC Parts Manual doesn't show anything but I remember a discussion here on this subject about 7-8 years ago. Someone even had a GM part number for a block that fit between the spring and the perch on the axle but I'm not able to find anything in my searches that pertains to a factory setup. Thanks!
Bob

Re: Original Mounting of Rear 4X4 Axles
I'm pretty certain my 69 K20 was never modified before I got a hold of it and it had a small block in back. I think it is tapered. I can look and see if you want, as it is still there.

Re: Original Mounting of Rear 4X4 Axles
My 72 had a small tapered block also ( 3/4 ton). My 69 GMC didn't (1/2 ton).
I wish I would have taken pics of both, but now it's too late. john

Re: Original Mounting of Rear 4X4 Axles
Her is the best pic I have of the rear spring mount on my 68SWB 4X4.
The pic is terrible because I am not that great at resizing pics. Jason |

my 67 K20 had no blocks and no wedge (did have a thin metal spacer about 1/8").

Here are some old pics I found of the block located on my 69 K20's rear axle.

Re: Original Mounting of Rear 4X4 Axles
Thanks for all of the information and pics. This is what I've got on one of mine, it's got some taper to it, but it doesn't look as thick as Yukon Jack's. I'll do some more looking through some parts books and see if anything else shows up.
