Rims, or Axles?

I have a real nice set of 5 bolt centerline wheels with brand new tires on them from another project. I would like to use them on my 68 C10 2WD. The problem is my truck has 6 lug axles. Would it be cheaper to find new hubs&axles, or buy new rims and tires. If I could find a donor vehicle, do 5 and 6 lug axles have the same number of splines/length/ diameter? What years/model would be a direct fit? If the answer is no to all, does anyone know where I can get reasonably priced new/used 6 lug wheels? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Rims, or Axles?

well, there are lots of factors to consider. first off, what size bolt pattern are the centerlines? If you aren't sure, what were they on previously?

Re: Rims, or Axles?

Well, for those, you may want to just buy some adapters, since the bolt pattern of those are 5x4.75. just look for some 6x5.5 (IIRC) hub to 5x4.75 wheels. Adapt-it appears to have these, but they look a bit pricey to me. maybe try summit or one of the board vendors.

Re: Rims, or Axles?

Late model 6 lug Chevy trucks use the same bolt pattern as the 67-70 trucks. You could probably find a set of stock or aftermarket wheels at a junk yard that would work.

that is if you want to keep those rims. if you want to get some others, Old Yeller 1970 has a good idea

Re: Rims, or Axles?

I searched all over the web, and the only place I could find adapters for 6-lug was adapt-it. And you are right, very pricey. It looks like my best bet is gonna be new wheels. Thanks for all the help.
