help me help my truck!
Hello to All of You, This is my first post, after reading and learning from all of you. I have a problem with my 69 C10-350. I was having problems with my taillights, very dim (rust and rust and more rust)so after reading here I ran new ground wires to the frame from the battery and to the motor from the battery. I also ran another ground from the battery to the firewall at one of the two studs that hold the parking brake. After checking each lamp and running new grounds to both , this fixed my taillight problems(sunglasses now required!) but when I went to start the truck-nothing, no clicks, clacks, nothing.
I noticed when turning the ignition key , that the brake light indicator on the dash lights up. Any ideas from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

Re: help me help my truck!
welcome to the board from daytona beach
if the truck is an automatictranny the first place i'd check is the neutral safty switch its located near the bottom of the steering column down near the floor(also make sure its in park or neutral) theres a heavy gauge purple wire that come from the ign switch to the safty sw then goes thru firewall to the starter

Welcome....
After checking the trans switch, also check the junction connectors and fuses, fusible links, etc. A voltage meter is needed at this point to see if you're getting voltages to the different components like the solenoid. Here's an easy to read diagram provided by one of our members. Let me know if you need the inside the cab diagrams. |

Re: help me help my truck!
if the fuseable link was bad, the truck would get no p[ower at all.
After checking the neutral safety switch, you need to have someone try cranking it over while you check the S terminal on the starter with a test light. Your brake light on the dash is supposed to light up when you turn the key to the crank position. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 08-21-2008 at 07:09 PM. |

Re: help me help my truck!
Well done! Thanks to all for the help. When I looked at the neutral safety switch
I discovered the purple wire was not plugged to it. After hooking the wire back to the switch, it still was dead. A jumper wire to bypass the switch got it running again. I'll replace the switch and move on to the other problems. Thanks again.
