Advise???
Hey everyone. I am new to this site and kind of learing as I go. I have a 1965 shortbed fleetside that I am working on and have been for quite some time. I was wondering if one of you could give me some advise on lowering my truck. I put 2" drop spindles on the front and I will be running 18" wheels. Right now the rearend (bed) is sitting pretty high but I do not have the wood in the bed. I am unsure whether to buy 2", 3", or 4" drop springs. I know you probably need to see it but was hoping someone had been down this same road before... Thanks for any advise!

Ricco:
Welcome to the forums from Kansas City. I don't personally have any experience with lowering 4-5-6 Chevy trucks, but several of the memebers have and will volunteer their experience and expertise with you. Keep us posted on your progress and good luck with your project. |

Re: Advise???
i believe 4 inches will sit you close to level or lower in the rear.
get the 3 inch springs and you can do blocks if you need more. or get the 4 inch springs and you can get 1 inch springs for the front if it is too high or cut a partial coil.

Re: Advise???
Yes.. A 3/4 drop will sit you level. So i wouldn't use a 4" drop spring. I acually want mine up an inch in the rear so I have a slight rake.

Re: Advise???
I think blocks put the trailing arms to close to the ground. But then again I never sized them up...

Re: Advise???
I had a 3"/4" static drop on my 64 and it had a slight rake. After I had installed the springs, I wished that I had bought 5" springs for the rear. It doesn't matter now though, as the springs are going to be replaced with bags soon!

Re: Advise???
I have the two inch blocks on mine. Picture doesn't show but there is at least 3-4 inches under the arm.

Re: Advise???
from alot of things i've read you should drop your rear end 2 inches more than the front to get it as close to sitting level with the truck unloaded. The people on here have A Lot more experience than me so I'd defer to their experience

Re: Advise???
Thank all of you for your advise/input. It is nice to know that there is a place to go for help on matters like this. I guess what do next is purchase some new springs for the rear that would allow the rearend to be 3" lower. That way if I see that I need to drop a little more then I can do it with a spacer under the trailing arms. Does that sound like I am making a major mistake to you guys?
Again thanks for your help! I will try to post a picture over the weekend.... |
