Carb Spacer
I'm replacing the manula chokequdrajet on my 400 w/ an electric one and I was considering adding a spacer plate b/c I read somewhere that you can increase your low end torque with one of the 4 hole spacers. Does anyone have any info on this? I have a boat that weighs ~3000 lb that I want to be able to pull in OD. The truck lugs slightly now while in OD. Thanks.

I hope you aren't towing the 3000lb boat behind the truck in OD. This is a BIG no-no. That will destroy an OD tranny real quick.

Leon,
I agree with Captkaos on towing 3000 lbs in OD. I hope you have transmission cooler installed too. Heat will beat your OD transmission to an early death. I have a little experience with using a carb spacer. There are several forms on the market. My truck currently has a four swirl hole 1 inch adaptor for a square bore 600 CFM Edelbrock. After the installation, I did notice better low end torque on my truck. Cruising in OD from 35MPH to 45 MPH in the city does not bog down my 305 as before the installation. Try the installation. It works for most users. ------------------ Gerardo 1983 Custom Truck TX Plates: "BAD BOW" http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/ |

I haven't towed the boat yet, hasn't been warm enough here in N Fla until this week for water play. I do have an aux cooler and I am installing a temp gauge for the trans fluid also. My truck currently shifts to OD at 45 mph and it bogs slightly on inclines, sounds like the spacer will do the trick. Thanks for the info on the spacer and the heads up on towing in OD.
