Altenator Bracket for 1967 283 Sb chevy

Ok heres the story, I have a 1976 chevy with a 283, from the numbers it is not original. I am playing around with it add somethings, i have added a new manifold and 4 barrel, the old manifold had mounting holes for the altenator, the new one does not. I also do not have mounting holes in my heads. I have purchased several new brakets and none of them seem to line up? It is currently on the drivers side as i want to add A/C soon.

So
How do i tell if i have a long/short water pump?
and does anyone have a picture of the lower bracket?

thanks

Here you are. Your brackets will depend on the water pump you have.

The lower bracket was either part of the exhaust manifold, or bolted to the #1 cyl exhaust manifold bolts. There's a lower mount available out there for header usage, I bet it would work for you with some fitting adjustment. I think it's these 2 pieces...

Re: Altenator Bracket for 1967 283 Sb chevy

I cant help with pics, but the 67 had a bracket that bolted to the end of the ex manifold , to mount the alternator.....68 -72 had the bracket mounted to the head, but the earley heads did not have the bolt bosses in the heads. I does look like you have the short waterpump.....crazyL

Through the 283/327 engine run the driver side exhaust manifold was a mounting point for the alternator, not the head. With early heads you need to either use original-style manifolds, drill & tap head/use washers to use later alt. bracket ,or use mount made for headers. The upper arm is longer to reach back to water pump mounting bolt.
