Spot Welder

Who makes a good (cheap in price) spot welder/dent puller kit? I need to remove some dents soon so I want to know.

Re: Harbor Freight.

I had one a long time ago that my brother gave me and it wasn't that good.

I'd save, scrimp and scrounge and get a decent one. I'm doing that to get a Lincoln 175 or a Hobart from Tractor supply. Of cours a Miller would be the ideal but on a retirement income I have to watch my pennies...

I'm planning on spending $500 to $600. Gotta remember that after that you still have to get the accessories and that will probably add another $300 to $500 dollars.

Re: Spot Welder

He's talking about a stud welder not a spot welder I think.

It welds pins onto sheet metal and comes with a slide hammer to pull dents right? if so then i'm looking to pick up the Harbor Freight one since I only need to do my cab and doors...

Re: Spot Welder

I have the one from Harbor Freight. It is made by Chicago Electric and works very good. I have used several times with no issues.

Here's the link.

It comes 100 of each size studs, so I haven't had to buy any yet. I'd say go for it. Its something that you can use a long time if you take care of it.

Re: Spot Welder

Thanks C-30!

How do I take proper care of it?

What do you use different size studs for?

Oh and it says, 300 studs.

Just keep it out of the weather and away from moisture. I store mine in the box it came along with the slide hammer, studs, etc. T

The different sizes are for different thickness metals. I use the smallest on regular sheet metal like on the body panels of these trucks.

Re: Spot Welder

chicago makes a good grinder from harbor freight. i had one that lasted 3 years, and it was like 30 dollars. i dropped it so many times and put it through hell. so much bondo dust got in there, but it always worked. then recently the bearings kinda crapped out and it made an awful noise and didn't catch/spin the disk.
