87 turn stalk replacement

Hey guys, I don't post much but I do lurk quite a bit. I've got my steering column apart to replace the turn stalk but can't figure out how to get it out of the switch. There is a retainer in the switch but no matter which way I turn it the retainer will not come out. I have to suspect that you have to remove this plastic retainer to allow the stalk to come out. Thanks..

Re: 87 turn stalk replacement

Okay it looks like that I just needed a bigger hammer.. I pulled on the stalk and the stalk came apart. All that was left in the switch itself was the metal rod the stalk is mounted on. With a pair of vise grips I just twisted and pulled. Bravo then I just pressed the new on in. Just in case some one has the problem in the future I thought I would post the resolution. Thanks
