56" rear springs?
.......on a SHORTBED?
My '75 GMC short stepper has 56" rear springs and the SPID says HD rear springs. Is this very common? it has 7 leaves PLUS the big main leaf. How many can I remove to lower it and still have a decent ride? Thanks -Lance

Re: 56" rear springs?
I personally wouldn't take more than 3 out of a 7 leaf HD pack. (you can ditch the helper if you don't plan to load it down)
HD springs on a stepside isn't out of the ordinary.

Re: 56" rear springs?
I actually prefer these springs. The longer length gives a better ride if you remove one or two. Also, if you want drop shackles, you don't have to cut the bed supports like you would with shorter springs.
On mine, I remove the the huge helper and then one of the upper leafs that didn't have much spring rate to it. Removing the helper lowered the rear slightly to make it more level with the front and the other leaf softened up the ride but I can still put a heavy load in the back with no sagging.
