Tubular control arms for 3/4 burb

I need to replace all the bushings and ball joints in my 89 R2500 Burban, I called CPP an inquired about their tubular control arms and they said they mine are different than a 73-87 1/2 ton, The only differance I see is the type of bushing used, can anyone shead some light on this? The guy at CPP stated the cross shafts are where the differance is but compairing (from memory) the Burb to my old 80 C-10 they look Identical. can some one give me some measurements off a set of stock c-10 cross shafts? I probly just neet to know if the hole spacing is the same.

I think the uppers could be used if you switched to 3/4 ton ball joints. (these are a bolt in item) The lowers are the problem. I think the 3/4 factory lowers have a bigger hole for the bigger 3/4 ton ball joints.

Re: Tubular control arms for 3/4 burb

I just did some searching and the part numbers look like they are all the same for the ball joints.

The spindle is different on the 1/2 vs 3/4-1T. The balljoints for a 1/2 won't work on the 3/4 spindle.

If you converted everything from the control arms out, you can switch it to 1/2T.

Re: Tubular control arms for 3/4 burb

Well, I already have dropped spindles and 8 lug wheels, so the 1/2 ton idea is out, I'm going to compare balljoint outer diameters, where they press in , because a stock control arm has the same part number weather it is for a 3/4 1/2 or 1 ton.

If I remember correctly, the taper on the 3/4 balljoint doesn't match the 1/2T The actual "empty" control arm should be the same when talking about a GM part. I have no knowledge of CPP's stuff.

Re: Tubular control arms for 3/4 burb

I think what I can do is use the 1/2 ton arms (aftermarket) with the 3/4 ton balljoints, if what I have found is correct the ball joint taper and stem are larger on the 3/4 but the outer diameter of the area that presses into the arm is the same.

Re: Tubular control arms for 3/4 burb

I found this on another forum from a guy that contacted ECE about the differences between the C10 and C20 suspensions for 67-72 trucks. I believe this is correct for 73-87. Here's what was said,..."Hi Again,

I called Early Classic Enterprises today and I have to give a tip of the hat to them - their technical line is AWESOME - very patient with me and I know I can be annoying.

On to the Front:
5) Lower control arms are different between the two models. Upper arms are the same. "

Anyone have a set of both lower balljoints that can compare them?
