anyone using aftermarket heater ac systems?

i've got the factory ac in my truck(comp. is bad). im looking into putting in an aftermarket heat/ ac system that will replace the monstrocity onder the dash and under the hood...the big plastic bullsh*t box's.
ive seen kits that will work with factory vents and will tuck under the dash or are small enough and clean looking to go under the hood...
any ideas?

Re: anyone using aftermarket heater ac systems?

Had some thoughts about updating my 'open the windows' AC.
One issue tho, its BIG!!!
Actually just salvaging the electric motor but it did look kinda funny!

I'm not sure about AC, but I'm installing a Flex A Lite Mojave heater. The resulting clean firewall was just amazing! Who knew that there were 1950's fallout shelter signs behind all that massive AC/Heater core!!

I just put a Vintage Air system in my 71, works great. It wasn't too bad to install. The firewall is clean and the underdash is the same but I lost most of my glove box. The link below has the picks.

Re: anyone using aftermarket heater ac systems?

I'm having to replace my cowl, and the replacement is from an air cab. So, all my a/c stuff will transpose into the new metal.

What I don't like is the huge compressor, so I'm thinking a Sanden compressor will do the job and be R-134a compliant. Other minor changes to the system to enable it all to work in harmony is my goal. Same controls and outlets with a smaller compressor.

But keep the the ideas coming. I just can't afford an aftermarket A/C system for now.

I like the look of the Vintage Air setup also. It's alot smaller than the factory unit, and gives a very clean firewall. The only drawback is less glovebox space.
