Dont know what to do...

I love my truck, and I like working on it but I don’t know what to do anymore. The truck needs some major attention beyond my little know how, engine about to go out I feel that it’s not as strong anymore and it’s using a lot of fuel. My wife wants me to get something newer like a 97 or so now. She will be getting a promoting at work soon and now with the part time that I got I have my choice, either fix it up or get something newer and fix that one up. I know that I won’t get too much for my current truck due to its age and problems. I have also been seeing how nice the 94 thru 02 camaros look, but I’m not a car guy but it is an option. Guys I need your help...Give me some inspiration!

What all is wrong with your truck besides the engine? A basic crate engine is under $2000 and a rebuilt turbo 350 is under $900. This would give you a new drivetrain for probaly less than a replacement vehicle would cost. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: Dont know what to do...

I'd get a new wife*LOL* just kidding!!! Fix your truck, you don't want to look back one day and say I wish I hadn't sold it. There are many options. I just sold my 2007 BMW so I could pay more attention to my 1981 short wide. I will be installing the 5.3/4L60E combo that's in the back of the truck when I get back home from Afghanistan. You just have to buckle down and learn the things you don't know. These trucks are very, very simple!!! Besides being simple, you can't beat the looks of 'em or the price...KEEP THE TRUCK!!!

I would save up and buy a crate engine, a new tranny and have front end rebuilt if needed. Then you will have a new truck, just in a simple old shell. Save again for paint and interior, again new looks but no monthly payments. David

Re: Dont know what to do...

For what it's worth... When I bought my truck I knew next to nothing. Changing out windshield wipers was a big accomplishment. I like tinkering, but I knew jack about parts or engines. I used this forum to ask all kinds of dumb questions, and within 6 months I did a full engine swap.

I was so frustrated with my truck at times, like when I replaced or rebuilt just about everything on the truck and I still didn't have power. Wanted to give up on the bloody thing. But now that the major engine replacement is done it's like a new truck, only totally paid for. I think it's worth it to fix what you've got...

Tune it up man! The best way to learn is to tinker. Rebuild your carb. Anything is expensive when you start throwing parts at it. Especially a drivetrain. I seriously doubt you need a motor. You could probably have it running like new for a couple hundred bucks---This board is your best friend.
