hello,

i'm just starting to get enough parts together so that it feels like i'll eventually get this truck running, I want to know who recommends what as far as hitches go. In the end i think i'd like a roll pan for the rear but still want to be able to pull something if needed. What do you guys run? reese, hidden hitch etc? Also is there a specific part number? This will be on a 2wd c-10.

anyhelp would be great.

I'd like to go with a receiver style hitch some day as well, but for now I'm just using the stock step bumper. Plenty of capacity for what I need and a heck of a lot cheaper.

Simply behind the license plate.....

Would like to see some installed on the older trucks.....none so far.....

After I installed my roll pan I had a frame-mount hitch installed. I didn't like the look of it so I went to the trailer shop and asked about a hidden hitch. Just the hitch was $300 (about 5 years ago), so I decided to keep my old one on. 2 years ago I had the hitch removed completely, no need for it any more (my truck is so low I had to install the ball upside down on a 6" drop hitch so it went up instead of down!).
You should be able to go ask any trailer or hitch place (I'd avoid installs by U-Haul, etc.). Just find one where you know they'll do a good job (look for hot rods in the parking lot

). Or, do it yourself!

Another thought (damn, 2 in 10 minutes!), a while back I was looking at my frame-mount hitch to see what I could do with it. Originally it was bolted to the bottom of the frame, but it looks like maneuvering it inbetween the frame to where the mounting flares went on top of the frame would place it perfectly behind the license plate for a hidden hitch.
Since I can't use mine anymore I ought to sell it, but shipping would be a biotch.

www.mar-k.com has a hidden hitch for roll pans. Since I have one of their roll pans I'll probably buy their hitch. I guess it's decently priced. I've seen some for $119 to $159 in truck magazines.

Hidden hitches are the only way to go I have one on my 78 and also on my 55 both have a roll pan. The big problem is the license plate light if you dont use a frame with a light I have not found anything else to use in place of the frame light. I picked up one from laim, Aim Industries a few years ago and had to do some extensive remodeling as it was too wide for the frame, but the blue tip wrench fixed it and it was mucheasier to install than the below the bumper receiver hitch that i had. Also you have to do something with the spare tire if you use the under bumper type. when you look for a roll pan make sure you get one that has a dip in it at the center so it covers more of the spare tire, I didn't see that when I ordered the roll pan, so I leave the spare tire at home !!!!
