Fuel tank conversion pix

I want to put my tank between the rails. I'm going to do a late model side fill in the bedside. I'd like to see what some of ya'll have done. I called CPP and they want 399 for a tank and about 25 for a sending unit. Is that about right. Is there a certain ohm sending unit I need?

If you have pix post them. (tank and filler neck)
What tank should I run?
Are you happy with the tank that you bought? (Fit, quality and price)
What company has the best deal?

I've already cut out the spare tire crossmember.

Thanks

Re: Fuel tank conversion pix

I suggest aluminum or SS not poly. I tried a poly tank and it just felt like I was installing a plastic "kids toy" type product in the frame....

$399 isn't bad.

nolimit engineering make one for a few companies... Might be something around Atlanta that you can pick up and save shipping.

Nolimit engineering makes good tanks. www.nolimit.net I have used there tanks on my truck and have had no issues. you can also search for member fuel cell guy who is on this site, he custom makes fuel cells as well.

I agree not to use poly even thou late model vehicles use them, but they are tucked up and out of the way. Plus aluminum or SS has some bling factor.

Re: Fuel tank conversion pix

Hey Alan,

Here is how I did my side fill. Stainless fuel injection tank is from Rick's Hot rod Shop. I had them put in a sender for the stock gage and one for the computer. Tank is ~18 gal and doesn't hang down very far. I fabbed the fuel inlet tubing and used a fuel cell snout for the filler and cap.

Well Alan, the board is so screwed up that it seems impossible for me to post pics.

OK I figured out how to manually resize so here are the pics.

Side fill like to the bed side? Where the cap goes it is threaded you could put a 45 on it and run it to wherever you want.

Is there enough clearance under the bed floor?

I am going with a 82-87 Blazer gas tank . I have found them new for less than a 100$ with the sending unit . If like me and on a budget , but if I had the cash it would be an aluminum tank http://www.speedyautoparts.com/find/CHBLAZER67.html

Re: Fuel tank conversion pix

When time allows...I plan on fabbing up my own rear tank. I know I could make a custom one for way cheaper than even the Blazer tank.

I used the No-limit one on my customers '67...very nice piece, but pricey for me right now.

I plan to build a tank to utilize the whole space back there, but kinda wrap under the frame too......keep'n it only about 6" max below the frame, mabey less....

Re: Fuel tank conversion pix

Here's the last photo I took when I was mocking up the rear end. My tank is a stainless 20 gal. unit that Fat Fendered Streetrods built for $400.

I'm planning on using one of these fuel doors. I'm leaning toward the square one.
