Alternate hood hinges???
Hey,
I recently purchased a '77 Chevy 1/2 Ton Stepside that has been extensively modified to run on the strip. The truck came with a flimsy fiberglass good with a GIANT Harwood scoop that looks way too big to run on the street in my opinion. The hood uses Dutz fasterners and has no hinges. I have a simple cowl hood that I want to install, but the truck has no inner fender panels where a stock hinge would mount. Is there any trick-looking hinge available that would not require the inner panels? Something without a spring maybe? I figure I can just use a chrome prop rod or something or maybe lock the hinge somehow to keep the hood up. Any ideas are appreciated. I need all the help I can get! ------------------ Bill Buchanan

If you are willing to go to the trouble, you could cut a small hole in your existing cab and use the hinges (the one that bolts to the firewall) from a '81-87 truck.

Thanks for the tip. Have you tried it? I'm not much of a "body man"-- pretty much of a novice all around actually. How hard is it to do?
Just get some hinges out of the junkyard? Bill

Here is a pic of where Neil Pickett from off-road upgraded his 73-80 to the 81-87 front end.
This is what I am suggesting you do. Basically, get the hinges, measure and mark the hole and cut it out and then mount the new hinges. If you need more info, go here: http://www.off-road.com/chevy/tech/grill/ ------------------ Chris Lucas 1973 Chevy C-10 1975 Chevy Silverado Captkaos' Page
