I'll be there on the 6th but I can't take my truck unless I have a semi truck to haul all the parts...

Is this the 'Fall Grand' show you're going to? How long does it last? I'll be in the area for another event from 9-12 thru 9-14 & they mentioned this show would be occurring @ the same time.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Arrow Re: who's going to pigeon forge this week ?

I alway's went to the grand run for 14 year's or so , but then a few years ago they turned it into marti graw (SPELLING?) the teenage boy's throw bead's and the teenage girl's throw their shirt's up !
this made it impossible for any of the hotrods to cruz at all ,
it got so bad that I have overheard guy's in store's and at gas station's taliking about going to a grand rod something or other (THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS !) and they definately DON'T go because of the old car hobbiest's LIKE ME that got stuff like this started !
I have video from the grand run year's ago with a clear veiw of the traffic at night and it was almost 100% hotrod's and the only average vehicle's were pizza delivery guy's !
so I just quit going to it and started going to the shade's they raised the year's fr 48 to 74 so that include's all the hotrod's and classic car's and truck's that will ever be ,
we lucked out this year too because next week it is gonna rain like pouring piss from a boot !! this weekend it's gonna be sunny high 70's to low 80's !!

Re: who's going to pigeon forge this week ?

Oh don't say rain. My family and I have a vacation planned for Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge next week. We'll be there from 9/8 to 9/12. I actually didn't know about the Shades of the Past or the Grand Rod Run when we made plans to go. Too bad I'll miss the first one. Sounds like a much better more family oriented time.

I'm supposed to be meeting up with 68Stepbed while we're there. I wouldn't mind meeting up with anyone else and talkin a little shop while I'm there. What would be more fun on a relaxing vacation than talking about cars and trucks?

Re: who's going to pigeon forge this week ?

I agree with 3ontree it has gotten worse just in the 7 years I've been going and it takes alot of the fun away when your watching vans and dump trucks and KIDS in big lifted trucks hootin and hollerin meanwhile the "cool cars and trucks " are drivin in the far lanes. I go to get away from work and my wife can shop and I can shop the swap meet. Were staying at the grand inns not the grand so I'll be sittin on the strip in a bright red chair with a top on it.

Re: who's going to pigeon forge this week ?

Yep I'm here in the middle of it every year. If it doesn't rain, I'll enter my truck in the Grand show. I entered it in the Spring show and got Top 25. I'm hoping to go again next weekend and see how it does again. I don't know if I'll go if it's gonna rain all weekend though.

I agree with the crazy shenanigans going on at the Grand Rod Run. It's mostly all on Sat night when all the crazy stuff happens. Since we're local, we've figured out the best night for cruising is Thurs nights. There's alot of cars in town, People taking fridays off work are coming into town after work that night, so there's still plenty of "cool" cars cruising around. There's also just enough traffic that you can actually cruise, not just sit and overheat in overcongested traffic.

The Shades of the Past weekend has a more mature attendance, so it's a little more relaxed and not very wild. You see more classics running around the streets too.

As 673ontree stated, the Sat night festivities of the Grand have become more like Mardi Gras than a rod run. The beads and boobs haven't been as bad the past couple years since cops cracked down pretty hard on them. They actually write tickets to guys throwing beads as well as girls flashing. What I can't stand is you see more lifted and deisel 4x4's, ricers, and late model Stangs and Camaros than actual classic cars and trucks that we show up to see.

Thurs. and Fri. nights are still fun though.

I don't like doing this, but here is my cell # if someone in town wants to meet up with me. 865-789-3879
It will be easier to meet up with some of you guys on a Thurs or Fri night than a Sat. Also if you tell me which motel you are staying at, I can meet up with you guys there instead of ya'll trying to find me.

Re: who's going to pigeon forge this week ?

I might look you up to try & check out your truck if you're still there on Fri/Sat 9-12/13. I'll be @ the 'Mainstay' hotel.

See what I mean Just messin' with ya, Asa.

I don't mind the classic 4x4 variety. I'm referring to the Z71 and late model crowd. I understand that people want to show off their rides, whatever they may be, but this is a "Rod Run", let the "rods" have their fun.
