Radiator that fits without breaking the bank ???

Need a 4 core radiator to fit a 1971 C20 to repalce the factory 4 core. Needs tranny cooler lines 12 inches apart and a 3/4 in. heater return fitting.

Past experience - ordered a 3 core 2 years ago for the 1970 from radiators.com or their cousin. Fits OK except the top metal bar is inverted and holds the fan shroud about 1/4 inch from from the brackets, fixed by using 1/4 nut as a spacer on the top screws, not the best looking fix but it works.

Present experience - ordered a 4 row from Rock Auto - CU369 was the number I think. All was good, tranny cooler lines 12 inches apart, fit the pads ok, lower oulet was curved, but had the same inverted metal piece at the top that pushes the shroud back, just like the one for the 70 and had no heater return line. The killer was it was damaged in shipping so I sent it back.

They sent out a nice looking aluminum piece with plastic tanks, but it would not fit the mounts, the crimp to the tanks make it too tall and wide to fit the brackets.

So here we sit with a leaky radiator thats not worth fixing and don't know what or where to get a good one that actually fits without costing 3-4 hundred bucks.

Any suggestions ? I also want to get a new 3 core for our 68, but not if it fits like the one we got for the 70, so I really need 2 that fit, a 3 and a 4 core.

I got my 4 row from advance auto. They actually had it in stock. Fit great. It was an auto one too. A little over $200 w/ tax.

3 and 4 row have different mounting brackets. 4 row are wider. You need a set of "4 row brackets" to use a 4 core radiator. Top and bottom.

Why do you need a 3/4" heater return line? I'll have to check the radiator catalog, but I'm not sure you'll find one for our trucks. I'll go by and look at some catalogs today and let you know.
A buddy of mine owns a radiator shop, I'll be there laer today (Sun) and look up some info.
If I remember correctly, a 3/4" nipple was for 73- later Big Blocks. Where does the 3/4" hose run to on yours? You only should have 2 hoses on the firewall & 2 into the motor. hmmmmmm

He needs the 3/4 return line because in 71 and 72 the heater core return line went to the passenger side top of the radiator, instead of water pump and block. Napa has them anywhere from $173.00 to $224.00 these are the correct sizes and shape with the correct outlets also!!!

Try your local radiator shop. Last time I took a radiator in it was shot, they got me a new one the next day, $155 is what it cost me and it was an exact copy of the one that was shot. A lot of times they can get you a better deal than some part stores.

Well I'm not at work so I can't find the part # to the 4 row, I think that these are all 3 row 3490 $173.89, 2526 $205.39, and 2528 $224.95. I'll try to find the 4 row part # tomorrow!!

When I bought mine a year or so ago, I bought it from Autozone. They didn't have anything in stock for a 70, but did have one in stock for a 79 1ton.

Comparing the new one and my old one,,,,I couldn't find a difference in them.

Tranny lines, correct attachments, 4 core, all the same.

I'll look it up and see if I can get a part number.

This is what I have used on all my vehicles, the last one I bought was for my best friends camaro 454 with a procharger it keeps that bad boy cool!!!

I went to the local Carquest & they had a direct replacement IN STOCK for my 72 with A/C and Auto Trans. It had the heater hose fitting and curved bottom spout. I think is was about $175 about a year ago.

How are the heater hose's routed when using the radiator? Do have have cap off the water pump or intake?

Some suppliers have the 3/4" hose outlet, some don't for the same application...
The part# your looking for will be a Ready-Rad/Modine part# of 433369. 4 row 3-1/2"" thick at sadddle mount tank seam. 28-3/4" core width (tank seam to tank seam)
Have a parts store interchange THIS number to their brand of part#, then have them check their parts book (or look at the radiator) to see if it has the 3/4" hose outlet, some companies will, some won't.

Now as for the fan shroud issue....
hmmmmmm.... the fan shroud mounts to the brackets if I remember correctly, not the radiator...
Take the radiator OUT of the vehicle (if its not already) and re-mount the top brackets in the truck without the radiator in. Then mount the shroud., to check fit...

Other option is... get a part# 433369 and have a quality radiator shop mount a brass 3/4" nipple into the pass side tank.
We've done that alot.
