Old or new gauge cluster

I am about finished with installing a heidt's IFS, power steering, and a new 700R4 transmission. I have also installed a new flaming river steering column and will soon have a 70 El Camino 12 bolt 3:73 Posi rear end to install. Now I am thinking about the guages, since they have never really worked. Now I am trying to decide if I want to rebuild the old guages or go with a new set. What do you all think? I would like to see some photos of some gauges to get some ideas. Any type that works well and not to hard to install? Here is what's completed so far..

Re: Old or new gauge cluster

Nice!!! I noticed that the classic instrument has a tachometer in the lower V - is it difficult to read? I like how it somewhat retains the original look. I also like the classic look of the autometer and VDO guages and where Entouraguy has mounted the tach . The custom wood panel is also a great idea, I would like to see that installed. Nice rides..I got a long way to go. Are these difficult to install?

Re: Old or new gauge cluster

We recently Purchased at complete "Direct Replacement" from nordskogperformance.com , a DP7003B Dash Panel for a 1957 Chevy Truck.

We attempted to install it, but the Panel's components will push against the Panel "Glass" if we use the spacers provided.
Also, if spacers are used to maintain a space between the panel's components and the "Glass", not only will the glass be unsecured, but this will allow airborne dust to collect on and between a the panel surface and on the inside of the panel glass.
The Dash has a part # 51-41007 Rev B on it.
Are we missing Parts? Are there assembly Drawings/ Instructions available?

Thanks,

Frank

Have you checked with the manufacturer?

Re: Old or new gauge cluster

I brought a stock gauge setup over to a local pin stripper and got this done for $75. I think the original design is the best layout. With a little creativity you can make them look great.

Re: Old or new gauge cluster

snap that original modified is awsome. I've always prefered original. Just think how rare they will be in 20 years... I had my originals rebuilt for about 100 bucks more than new ones definatly worth the investment

Re: Old or new gauge cluster

Mark me as X4 on the Classic instruments panel. That would cause double takes all day long and still holds the appearance of the original gage panel.

Second I think I like the two gage panel that Orgalmeister showed us.

Third choice would be the restored original gages as I have always thought they were a good looking set ever since I had a 57 Panel way back when.

Re: Old or new gauge cluster

I know the orig gauges are not that revealing, are rather small and hard to read and may not be that accurate either. I was thinking of retaining the original setup but then having another set of better gauges off to the side somewhere, if this is even possible.
