I put a 350 in place of a I6 in a 79 3/4 ton and used the I6 frame towers with a 4 speed and such. Didn't have to move the tranny or anything and used all the normal V8 brackets and stuff. Was real easy and all worked fine. Did it when I was almost 16 y/o. Damn that was 10 years ago. I feel old now. I had no problems with my swap I wouldn't think yours would be much different.
