How not to detail an engine

I finally got some time to work on the blazer. It fired for the first time since memorial day weekend. I have been troubleshooting an electrical problem. I have replaced the fuse link at the battery with much help from you guys. I got it to crank but no fire. I started tracing wires all over the place. I found the gas guage wire was disconnected. I got that fixed and now that my gas guage works, the tank was empty. Put some gas in this weekend and started cranking forgetting that I disconnected the fuel line at the carb to see if any fuel came out, well it did this time. All over the engine. After reconnecting the fuel line, cleaning the engine, mostly the intake, and letting it cool...

...I fired the engine.

Next weekend. See if it stays started without burning through anymore wires.

Yes now the top of the engine is really clean and orange. Now I need to get it out and clean the rest.
