longbox conversion???
Does anyone out there know what a longbox to a shortbox conversion would entail? Has anyone done this? I am definitely thinking of doing this in the near future. Any ideas would be appreciated!!!

It has been done and there is some good information on it. I would suggest doing a search and try to find E-Fabman's post with pictures. He has a very good method for doing the shortening. Try "frame" search for the last (6) months.

People I've talked to say it isn't too tough. I'd like to do the same thing to my truck if I could find a rust free shortbox. The conversion should just amount to taking some inches out of the middle and a few inches off the back of the frame and putting in new driveshafts and brake lines.

Jason, would you not have to cut down the trailing arms as well?

only thing needing shortening is Frame - 12 In. between cab mounts. 8 in. off back. Brake lines and drive shaft. I may be forgetting something but that's all i think..

I thought that in the Totally Polished article on an older truck it took out a pair of bed mounts. I don't even know how many bed mounts there are in each box of these eras. D@mn I really need to get my truck to my house.

i did it the easy way, went and found a short bed frame, and moved everything else over.

Don't do anything to the bed mounts... they are fine. The only mounts that need to be moved are the cab mounts. Last mount 12. in. back

They do need to be removed the pair closest to the cab look at any short box frame and you will see on less pair of mounts... Later Mario
