air bags off a lincoln? could it work?

At work the other day, We pulled the air bags off the rear of a lincoln and put springs in. I asked for the air bags and took them home. Does anyone know if these would be of any use on my 72' 2500 longbed? I have a couple ideas, but i haven't even held them up to see if they'd fit.

Re: air bags off a lincoln? could it work?

I talked to a friend of mine at work who is a former certified lincoln tech (not that it matters) and was asking him the same thing.

He told me that the problems he foresaw were 1) the bags are pretty tall. 2) the top of the bag mounts with some type of clip setup and could be difficult mount.

Now, I've never seen these bags... so I have no clue. But I am simply telling you what he told me.

Yes, they mount at the top with s squiggly clip... I was thinking i could always fabricate the top and bottom mounts..... The bags are kind of tall, but couldn't they be fine if i just inflated them 70 or 80 percent?
I appreciate someone going out of their way to get some sort of information on this..... I have a buddy who specializes in this sort of thing, if i can get him over here, He'll let me know what we can do... Now for the hard part... getting him over here.

Lets say you did get it to work. Then a piece of road debris punctures a bag, and you don't have a spare one laying around. Where you going to get one from now?

Wouldn't it be a lot easier just to buy what has been proven to work?

Plus I think replacements are pricey...I know a couple of people that have had to replace them....

Re: air bags off a lincoln? could it work?

Agree'd with most of these comments. I'm juggling with the struggle between bagging the truck, and not bagging the truck. I like the look of stock hight trucks, but also love the look of bagged trucks. I'd like to be able to lift the truck back up to as close as stock as possible while being able to slam it nice and low. I have a air bag fund started up, it'll be a while before i can have enough saved up for them, and i'm taking care of more important issues with the truck first.
I just thought maybe these lincoln bags might work for something. But, i know what kinds of diseases F*RD parts can carry. And yes, the bags do feel a bit thin. I guess i'll just put them where they belong. In the dumpster behind a fast food joint.

Thats the cool thing about bags, you can lift to around stock height and go cruising and most people wont know or cant tell it even has air bags until you pull in somewhere and hit the dump switch. Best of both worlds

Re: air bags off a lincoln? could it work?

If i'm going Bagged, would i need to use drop spindles? I'm guessing obviously, but since i don't know for sure, i need to ask...... Also, i'm guessing a swap to 5 or 6 bolt lugs would be mandatory.... I just think it'd be kinda cool to keep the 8 lug setup... it'd throw some people off.
I plan on installing everything in the driveway, unless this is something that should be done by a professional... But, I am a professional, just not in this area.

Very true leftcoast66

The drop spindles do help with the camber all aired out, but some dont have them. 5 or 6 lugs are the usual way to go but not sure about the backspacing on the wheels you have if they would even go under fenders. But yea that would be cool to have it bagged with 8 lugs its something different

Re: air bags off a lincoln? could it work?

It really depends on your preference. You don't "have" to use dropped spindles, that just means it won't go 2.5-3" lower than it would with them.

There's nothing wrong with staying 8 lug, it just limits your wheel selection.
