700r4 tranny--Np205

Hello all. I'm new so go easy on me. I've had my baby since 1986. She is a 1970 GMC 3/4t. 4x4. The truck has a stock 4 speed with a NP 205 transfer case & 4.11's. The truck is my daily driver and has been modified over the years to suit my needs. I'm wondering if any of you gearheads out there have ever mated a 200r4 or a 700r4 auto tranny with a NP 205 transfer case. I have a feeling I'll have to swap the 205 for another that will work with an automatic tranny. But it never hurts to ask.
Next question. Do any of you guys know of a supplier who has new replacement metal floors for a 8' box. They're out there for shortboxes but I haven't seen any for longboxes. I tried this post already so bear with me if you see it twice.

You will most likely need an auto-205 transfer case.

The reason I say "most likely" is because you will also need a special output shaft put in the rear of the 700r4. I suppose it's possible that they have ones that have the manual tranny splines on it instead of the auto tranny splines.

I put a 700r4 in my K10 'burb and used the factory 205 t-case. It was automagic to start with, so I didn't have to worry about that part, except that I did have to put the special output shaft in the tranny. Well, Bowtie Overdrives put the special output shaft in when they built my tranny. The transfer case bolted right up to the tranny like it was factory. Of course, making everything else fit was a project.

Interesting. I wasn't aware GM matched any 205's with automatics. Thought maybe it was 203's with auto's and 205's with sticks. It may be possible for me to convert the stick 205. Any info at this point is helpfull. Thx.

To my knowledge,there are no resto parts made for 8' boxes except "patch" stuff.

Yep, sometime in '69 they started switching over from the Rockwell t-case. I don't know how long it lasted, but it went through '72. Just find a 205 mated to an automagic and then you only need a 700r4 with the right output shaft.

I have no idea when or where the 203 came into play, and I don't really want to know. Pure junk in my opinion. I'm fairly certain that no '67-72 had a 203, only Rockwell T221 to '69 or '70, then NP 205 after that. Both are good t-cases.

If you were to convert the stick 205, you would have to change the input shaft of the t-case, and I'm not sure what else. You would also need the tranny to t-case adapter for an automagic, they are different. It would probably be easier to find an auto t-case then sell your stick stuff after you make the conversion.
