Best way to mount the fuse panel
I want to mount the fuse panel on the kick panel but am unsure of what would be the best way to mount it. I am concerned that if I use metal screws they may vibrate loose. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Re: Best way to mount the fuse panel
Since you can't get to the backside to use a nut, mabey some jb weld or thread lock on the threads of the machine screw.

Re: Best way to mount the fuse panel
Is the panel frame plastic or metal? If metal make sure you isolate the screw from the frame so it can't ground to the truck body. I mounted mine to a bracket that tucked up under the dash and just used large sheetmetal screws with hex head so I could use a rachet to torque them down. Didn't come loose the 12 years it was in and the truck spent alot of time off road on washboard logging roads. If you are worried use a shot of loctite on the threads.

Re: Best way to mount the fuse panel
Sounds like a good application to use nutsert/rivnuts on. I used them to mount my fuse block to the mounting bracket. A little loctite on the mounting screw and it will not fall down.

Houston, what are nutsert/rivnuts? Oh and BTW I hope you guys are safe down there. I was hoping Ike would go further south as we need the rain in the Hill Country.

Re: Best way to mount the fuse panel
you could try some speed nuts as they clip on to the metal. you just need a slot and a hole. (carefull how you pronounce that last sentence)

Re: Best way to mount the fuse panel
Nutserts are a captive style threaded insert that is swaged into place using your rivet gun. You can source them from several locations but I got some from these guys when I ordered my bed latch kit.
http://www.pros-pick.com/threaded_inserts.html Get the 1/4-20 I have used these to secure the bed latch hardward, the tranny cover, and secure the fuse block to my custom made bracket. Works great. Thanks for the concern. We should be fine here as long as the margarita mix and cigars holds out. Those further south are the ones you hope have enough insurance. |

A custom made bracket? Do you have a picture of your bracket?
