Header issue

I bought a set of doug thorley headers for my small block 400. I went to install them tonight and I came accross an issue. The left side header fits perfect however the passenger side bolts right up but the number two spark plug there is zero room between the spark plug and the header tube, the spark plug wire does not fit in there period. I attached some picts to give you guys an idea of what I have encountered. I am a bit dissapointed as I am so ready to drop this motor in and get it going, now I am at a stand still. I called nick @ doug thorley headers and emailed him as well the picts hopefully he will get me all ready to go quickly. Has any of you ever had such issue? I have built several engines over my years and have never had this happen.
Any ideas or thoughts?

Looks like you might need to get a set of Accel shortie plugs...

any idea on what part number I would need.?
I hope this works so I dont have to be dealing with credits and shipping and all that non sense.
I am getting one new plug today to see if that works. Other than that I am waiting for nick to call me to see if there is a different part number for straight angle plugs headers. I will just keep my fingers crossed hoping that the shorter plug will solve my problem.

You are not kidding, I know that I am going to come across many snags while I am doing this rebuild of my truck, just did not expect this one. This is definetly a first for me.

Up to 10.5 to 1 Compression

Im not sure the # I found is the correct heat range for your motor. The local oreilly's here carries them, may be worth looking in your area...

Maybe those headers were built for angle plug heads? I've got it figured out, you can send me those heads and order up some angle plug heads to replace them and we will all be happy

If those headers weren't so darn purdy, you could just get out the BFH.

Thank you for your help,,, I will try this tomorrow to see if the 45 degree boot will fit and not touch the header, maybe I can cross over my part number and just buy one spark plug....to try.

Believe I thought of that but I dont want to rig anything I want it as close to perfect as possible

I had to use those damn shorty spark plugs on my blazer, there expensive compared to regular plugs, like 5 bucks a piece, i'm not used to paying more than 1.50 for the regular ole cheapies. I also had to use the 90 degree boots. I bought the universal wires that you cut yourself and it came out real clean, well worth it IMO.

Al that motor is sweet!!! What heads are they and what are the details/part number for the pulley kit??? Did you buy the headers directly from Thorley??

The heads are 70cc straight angle plugs from edelbrock part number 60759

The pulleys are from March Pulleys but I cant remember the part number at this time however I can get it for you when I get to my shop.

It is still a shame that "most" of the "great header engineers" cannot come up with a header that fits without either using the BFH, or buying special plugs, wires, insulators, etc. It's been that way since the beginning. I'm not just talking trucks either. Maybe they get kick backs from those makers of those products. IMHO

I went with this header just because of that, they claimed that they are "specially" designed for our trucks. I know that they engineer some great headers, maybe this is just an isolated case. We will see, wish me luck...

Thanks to all you guys suggestions I have my problem solved....the accel 414s smaller header plug did the trick!!!!
