tranny rebuild?

he guys I decided to have my 350 rebuilt instead of buying a new one. I'm having a local shop do it for 800.00 it's a complete overhaul with tc and shift kit. It seems kind of pricey compared to a shop I stoped at an hour away. They wanted 550 if I took out the tranny myself and brought it to them. The local guy is the best around according to everyone I asked. What do you think?

Re: tranny rebuild?

I have seen some rebuilt 350's on ebay for $675 shipped. I think that is the route I'm going. I have also be quoted $850 to have mine repaired locally. Most of the guys in Ebay have very good feedback from others that have bought their transmissions.

Re: tranny rebuild?

If you can take the trans out by yourself you can also rebuild it yourself. They are not that hard. I followed this book Amazon.com: Turbo Hydra/350 Hp511: Ron Sessions:... Amazon.com: Turbo Hydra/350 Hp511: Ron Sessions:... . They have step by step instructions with pictures. I did 2 th350 so far.

Re: tranny rebuild?

For that you can get a 700r4 from Jegs. It does seem a little pricey.

Re: tranny rebuild?

I would put a 700r4 IMOP. That is what i did last month to my 72 sub and took the 350 turbo out. I'm very happy with the 700r4 since it has overdrive and it gets better gas milage. I paid $950 at a shop for the switch and rebuild of the trans.

Re: tranny rebuild?

im having mine in a 4wd rebuilt plus new tc for 600,he is taking it out and puttin it back in, didnt think that was too bad, but as some guys said i would have really thought about the 700r trans, for the added benifit of the overdrive . ohh well too late now.if you havent agreed to the guy yet maybe you should consider the 700 .
