Re-arching Springs?

Hello 4x4 forum, Newbie here. I am needing front 10" springs for my 69 4x4 build but can't seem to find any. Superlift has a 8" spring. One company told me that they could re-arch the 8" to a 10" spring. My question is will the springs sag over time and won't this change the spring length? Another lift company has told me I could use 73-87 springs with 1" longer shackles on my 69 swb 4x4. Any truth to this?

Re: Re-arching Springs?

The newer model springs are not a bolt in, requires pretty extensive modifications, luckily the aftermarket has come to the rescue. Look up diy4x and they have a kit called b52, it allows you to use the longer springs, again, not the easiest to do. Custom springs is another answer, I recommend Alcan.

Re: Re-arching Springs?

I don`t think new springs being over-arched will sag any more than any other spring. All springs are flat steel that is arched. An aged spring will flatten over time, from factory or after re-arching.Like the springs did originally from age before they required re-arching.
I don`t see how 73-upleafs could work. The lift springs are made to end up the right length after desired arch. So,maybe,if you arched stock 73-up leafs 10" they would end up short enough to use in a pre-73.But,10" lift springs you buy are made from longer stock to end up the proper length after arching.

Re: Re-arching Springs?

I would suggest using a set of 52" and 56" springs for the '73-'87's in a 6" lift. Then combine these with the B52's and a rear shackle flip from diy4x.com. This should give you about 10" of lift, but of course it is a bit of work.

Re: Re-arching Springs?

10" of lift is alot of work no matter what way you go.I agree with Captainfab. That would be the way to go.I`d want longer springs for that much arch.

Re: Re-arching Springs?

Thanks for the quick replys, I am getting a bid on the Alcan springs. But I really like the diy4x setup that you guys have spoke about and am researching it now.How tough is it moving the diy4x rear shackle eye hanger?

Re: Re-arching Springs?

Will the truck "flex" with this setup? I am going to be running 39.5 boggers and don't want the tires getting into the body. More lift?
