Tire Sizes on what appears to be stock rims

In the Jeep world a lot is based off the tire size to determine the Lift and the axles to insure they are not to weak.

I know my 65 is a bit different in that its not an off roading machine and its not going to be subject to the same abuse.

Anyways whats the going tire size for what appears to stock rims on a 65 6 lug?

Currently I'm rolling on what appears to be low rider wheels and well its driving me bonkers.

I'm sure there is a factory size which would be great to know, but I'm also interested in whats the largest I could fit. I'd really like that fatboy look opposed to my low profile look.

I'd say it depends on what the width is of your stock wheels. Without knowing that, I'd say probably a 235/75R15. You could upgrade to some 16" wheels, and that would give you some more choices for taller tires without spending a bunch.

Yeah I have no idea either. I just figured I could hit craigslist and start looking for some tires that have some taller rubber on them until I figure out what I really want.

Kinda hard to build a truck based around one thing and of course others without knowing what you got I suppose.

I believe the stock tires were G78-15 standard and H78-15 optional. I'm not sure if the same wheels were used or if bigger tire had a bigger wheel.

The sizes roughly equate to P215/75R15 and P225/75R15.

Here is a link to a tire size conversion chart.

I took a look at the wheels last night and I'm running what looks like
225/60/15

Also unless the factory wheels where actually a silver color or mabye chrome these things have been spray painted.

Re: Tire Sizes on what appears to be stock rims

I am running 225/70R15 tires on 15x8 Chevrolet rally wheels on my truck. The wheels came originally on Chevy 4x4 pickups for many years. I would say 1978 to 1988. The wheels go for about a $100.00 or less on Craigslist. Here is a pic. Tires are old cop car take offs.
