Newbie Question
Hello to all, I am taking the plunge and looking at a GMC pickup truck to purchase. I am unsure of the year as is the elderly owner who has it for sale. The serial number that I got off the door post is....101 22 P 18007........ The truck appears to be pretty complete even still has the key in the ignition. It is not running at the moment, just parted out in a shed behind his house. The rear bed is metal and not wood boards so I don't know if the wood was removed and replaced with metal, or if the metal can be replaced by wood.
Hes asking $2,000.00 for it. I don't know if thats a fair price or if I should start lower, I don't want to stiff him but on the other hand I don't want to over pay for it. I know probably asking alot and hopefully someone can answer these questions, Thanks in advance, Barry |

Re: Newbie Question
Welcome to the site Barry.
If you can post a pic of the truck we may be able to help with the year. Kim |

Re: Newbie Question
Barry welcome: Now on to your question. Look for rust!!!! Cab, chassis, bed. In that order. This way, I think, will help decide if the truck is worth the $$$. And of course your abilities and willingness to do the work and or learn.

Re: Newbie Question
Thanks Kim and orgalmeister, as for a picture I will see if I can get some, as for the truck it appears to be pretty solid, surface rust in some areas, the only rust through is a hole approx 1 1/2" in around on the left side cab corner, the floors are solid, the original 6 cyl engine is still in it with a 3 speed on the column. Don't know if I would keep it all original or not. I have a 283 engine out of a 56 belair that I recently rebuilt and also trying to decide if I should go with a 4 speed or and automatic. Decisions.....Decisions.
A lot to learn and find out, thanks |

Re: Newbie Question
If thats all the rust it has, it sounds like a pretty good deal. If you keep it original be sure to keep the skinny tires on it, or your shoulders will get bigger.....lol
