FYI: igniton key tip...
Quick tip: I was in need of an extra key for my truck and went to Lowes to have one made. The key person said they were out of the GM type key but said he cold still match it.
The key he made for me works better since it sticks out about a 1/2" farther than the original making it easier to turn (slight arthritis in index finger). Also, it helps in preventing scratching the chrome bezel if you carry extra keys. Name on key is AXXESS+ on one side and 5R on the other. |

Re: FYI: igniton key tip...
Thanks for the info, I am sure some of us could use the longer key.
I use to work at Lowe's and made the same key for my '71 but at that time they only had the one without the rubber. Again thank you for the info. The next time I get keys made I will ask for that one. Danny

As a hint for the future have another made. Then just drop it in a credit card slot in your wallet.it will be there if you ever lock your keys in the truck. It does take up a little space but less than the credit card you wont need for the locksmith.

Re: FYI: igniton key tip...
how could you ever lock your keys in the truck?
With the larger head on the key, watch that you don't twist it too hard like in the door lock or something. I twisted one pretty bad in one of my trucks. Almost broke the key off in there. |

Obviously I can't in the panel but isee people in parking lots every day who were too busy talking on the cell to remember to get their keys.

Re: FYI: igniton key tip...
Yep , Ive got a spare for the 03 work truck (single key) in my wallet and its saved me before. Have a spare (single)for the 96 2500 hidden in the garage for the missus. she doesnt know. shes lost 5 keys already and has been warned she's on the last one , but refuses to get more made.her 96 gmc box van has 2 keys . anyway now I just got a 70 c/10 and its keys are both square. is that right or has someone changed locks somehow ? Sometimes she grabs the old Eurosports (long gone) keys and cant even get out the driveway . hahahaha always good for a laugh when shes rushing in the morning. chevs rule.

So far I haven't had any problem with the longer key. But, since I've developed "mouse finger" (index finger sore at the joint from clicking on the mouse too much) it really helps when turning the key. The bonus is that the fuel cap key barely touches the bezel so minimizes scratching it or the paint. |
