rebuilding lower control arms

anyone find out where to set the inner sleeve on a 72 lower control arm, alignment shop said i had to have it close. i posted this earlier in the month with limited response. i wanted to know if someone had come across where to set the center rod between the outer caps. any help would be great. thanks.

Re: rebuilding lower control arms

no, on the 67-72 style lower a arms they have thread in caps on each side with a threaded center shaft, that shaft will thread in and out of the caps about 3/8 of an inch when the outer caps are seated. i know this has to throw the caster off if not done correctly, i was wondering if anyone knew a starting point to set at before i take it to the alignment shop.

All the trucks done by me have always had the shaft centered within the arms & had the 'nuts' threaded down equally. I've always attempted to center the assembly as much as possible. I never had any problems w/any of them when it came time for alignments.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

If my alignment guy told me that I'd find another shop.

Re: rebuilding lower control arms

ya, the part i am talking about is item number twenty five, 25, in the break down. see how the caps are threaded internally and externally. when you run the outside caps down to the arms you still have room to turn the center shaft. any help would be great. thanks again guys.

sounds like you need to find a shop that knows what the hell he is doing... go to a run down looking place with a bunch of old farts sitting on stools at the counter chain smoking together....they know what they are doing....seriously.
