Re: Question on C notch height??

the c notch is a "one size fits all" type thing ... it will give you about 2.5" - 3" more clearance

The bolt-in style c-notch is like what Shane describes. KP sells a weld-in 'step notch' kit which is actually deep enough to allow the frame rails to be planted on the ground.

Which are you seeking info about?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Question on C notch height??

The 8 piece step notch kit comes unweled thus the "8 piece" description and will work with 22" wheels and tires. The notch give you a true 9 inches of axle clearance when installed at full depth. You can trim the notch to be shorter if you don't want, or need, that much of a drop.

Yep. Those are the KPC 8pc Step Notch pieces & the height can be adjusted to be shorter if the full depth isn't needed.

Is it safe to tow with these 8pc step notches? Say you are going to tow a 3000 pound car...

Re: Question on C notch height??

We know the material used on the notch and it's design are plenty strong when installed properly and fully welded in place. There are a few factors to look at when asking a question like yours.

1. The car weight is appx. 3,000 lbs but what is the weight of the trailer.

2. What's the tongue weight being applied to the hitch ?

2. Is the truck running an air ride system? If so is it a cantilever style, bag over axle style, or bag on trailing arm style ?

Typically you don't want to pull a long heavy trailer with serious tongue weight if you're using a cantilever system. Main reason is because there's going to be a ton of stress and load applied to the rear frame section where the bag is located, and that weight has to span through the notch and up towards the front of the chassis.
If the bags are locted directly off the axle, or over the axle, you're now moving the weight distribution point forward and off the rear frame section and applying it directly at the axle location. This will take a fair amount of stress of the notch.
