single diamond or triangle heads

is anyone familiar with these heads called powerpack heads. What are they and are they any good. I also have an 010 (3970010) block and don't know if it's a 327 or 350. It has a very small balancer (1/2" thick. Did they make any balancers this small for a 350. I believe this is the original engine to the truck. I've heard the 010 block are desireable for their high nickel content.

Re: single diamond or triangle heads

I had one power pack head on my old 307. Some genius burnt up the original 307 head and replaced it with a power pack. You can run the numbers on them and see what you get. They weren't too unusual from what I remember. I asked on here a long time ago. BTW, I used to live in North Ogden about ten years ago. I'll bet it's changed quite a bit since then.

The block could be a 350 or a 327 as you know, but with small balancer it would be a 327 if its factory. As far as Powerpack heads, they are high compression 283 and 250HP 327 heads and were used from '60 - '66. They have small ports, small 1.72/1.50 valves and very small 56cc combustion chambers, which is too small for a pump gas 350 without using dished pistons. They are good heads on a 283 and they do OK on the mild 327, but I'd pass on them. There are many later heads (even some smog heads) that out perform them all the way around. Another negative about them is that have no accessory holes on the front and limits the engine pulley setups.

Good information. I was goign to do a rebuild and use them by freshening them up. So with what you said, it is likely that this motor is a 327 and not 350. The balancer is very small. The motor is blue also. Do you know if they put blue motors in early pick-ups. This thing had all the smog crap on it up until last week. I do believe it is the original motor to the car. If someone changed it, I don't know why they would have put smog stuff back on.
