Baggin' a leaf spring truck, how do i do it???

Untill today i had never seen a bagged truck that was actually driving. I've only seen them at shows but today i was with my sister and her boyfriend going down I-77 and my sister says "look at that truck behind us" i looked back and it was a late 90's S-10 sitting about 2inches off of the ground. It had to be the coolest thing i've ever seen on the highway. Enough with my story though

I want to know exactly how you go about bagging the rear end of a 1968 GMC that has factory leaf springs. I dont wanna lay frame but i'd like to drop it down every now and then. Pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Baggin' a leaf spring truck, how do i do it???

I did mine with an "air-over-leaf" setup. It's basically like a overload air bag. Without the bag, your leaf spring will hold the truck up so whatever drop you have with the springs installed will be your max drop. I have about 8-9 inches on mine. To accomplish this I C-notched the frame, did a flip on the rear axle (6"), added an inch lowering block and removed a couple of springs (2"). I left 3 springs, N2TRUX did the same thing on his truck and left 2. The brackets supplied with the kit are a bolt-on style... I welded mine on and powdercoated the whole frame. The bags bolt onto the brackets then there is a lower bracket that fits between the axle and springs and is held in place with the u-bolts.

N2TRUX has a lot of great photos in one of his signature links. Here is a link to his user page. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/member.php?u=621
I hope he doesn't mind me posting info on his truck but he did a great job and has a lot of detail about the process. His truck is a 73-87 style but there isn't much difference with the 67-72 rear leaf suspension.

This is the parts list they gave me for my truck if I ever decide to drop it to the ground. The leaf springs are replaced with a new setup that will let you drop it to the ground or close to it. All the parts bolt on you just need to notch the frame. http://www.ridetech.com/products/Che...rms-931-0.html

They have a chat window you can talk to a tec and tell them what you are wanting and they will show you the parts list.

find a doner chevy with the coil spring rearend and swap it out. This will give you the travle motion you are looking for (all the way up and all the way down). You drive with the truck up (or down) pull up to a light and drop it to the ground.

Like C-10 Driver said the leaf springs will keep the truck in basicaly one ride/parked hight.

You could do the swap or fab a hole rear suspension setup.

if you were gonna change the suspension couldnt you just switch the leafs out for shorter bars and build from there

Yeah but its a good question. I ran across this thread when I was doing a search for dropping a leaf spring truck. It may help someone out that is going to drop their truck.

Im sure you could its just a different way of going about it. My choice was the new rearend setup for total air ride. But if you wanted to save money (LOW DOUGH) has a great idea for the same effect as the one I was looking at.

Quite a bit considering the difference between the 67-72 frames.
