mystery screw

the doors on my 68 k10 were orignaly off of a 69-72 suburban judging by the trim and back corner swap and there is a screw and indent under the wing windows that i have never seen before
what was the screw and indent for? is it a suburban only thing? is it a year specific thing?
here is a pic of it

thanks
nate

Re: mystery screw

A screw like that is a 1972 only thing. Blazers had them, but with a black plug and screw with a bigger hole. The 72 trucks had just the screw with the indent. The doors should be 1972 only. I guess the doors could crack along the top edge???, so it was added to stiffin or make the door more ridgid. Hope my info is correct/helpfull.

Re: mystery screw

Forgot... I also think that 1972 doors can only use the 1972 door panels. May want to check into this. I'm not 100% sure, I've never had a 1972. Someone will chime in.

Re: mystery screw

Doors would crack near the wing. Thats why the screw was added.

Re: mystery screw

if you want to use different panels on the '72 doors, you have to change the window regulators for the shorter shafts (previous years) -I'm not sure about the door handles.

Re: mystery screw

They '72 doors don't have the threaded inserts to mount the 71 - down style door panels either. I can tell by the big holes in your's that it will not accept the older door panels. You'll need '72 model platic door panels.
