grinding tool

I'm getting ready to purchase floor pans for my 61 and I'm not sure what type of grinding tool that I need to get my old floor pan cut off. Would a regular 4 1/2 inch grider work or do you think a smaller drill would be better?
Thanks for the help,
Joe

Re: grinding tool

4.5" angle grinder with cut-off wheel and a sawzall would be ideal (besides a plasma cutter). There are places each can't reach where the other steps in.

Re: grinding tool

Hey Joe!! I've been using a 4" grinder with metal cutting wheels I buy at Home Depot. Seems to work pretty good on sheet metal. Or, if you have big enough compressor, you can pick up a 1/4" air grinder. There's a place out here called Harbor Freight Tools and they sell air tools for a pretty good price. Though not top of the line but they do the job.

Re: grinding tool

I used a sawzall, by far the fastest. I had to do rockers and doorposts to, so I cut out the cab supports and everything. I would invest in a spot weld cutter to, handy little tool.

Re: grinding tool

Also, for spot welds, I use a "step" drill bit. (1/8" to 1/2") does a pretty good job...
