Need help with body mounts on 72 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I put on a energy suspention kit today but the stupid thing came with no paperwork at all. I guess they leave it up to us to figure out how it all goes. Anyway I got it all on but don't know how tight to tighten the bolts. So anyone with experiance let me know, i'm hoping to get it off to paint this week

I got mine with paper work, i'll try to take a pic of it or scan it or just type out the basics of it tomorrow if someone else doesn't beat me to it, i'm going to bed.

I guess this is the one you got right?? Wierd that yours didn't come with instructions.

Thanks for the help so far. I just don,t know how tight to go. It seems like I should snug them up and then go a little tighter. You don't want to go all the way tight against the inside spacer do you? That seems like it would defeat the purpose. For now i'm gonna go two turns past when all the slop was out. Keep the advice coming thanks Robert

I have done this same upgrade but am by no means an expert. The general opinion of myself and everyone that I talked to said to "snug" them up. I know that isn't an exact science but it is what it is. You wouldn't want to bottom them out against the sleeve, I know that. Also you should be using nylon nuts instead of regular ones. This will keep the nuts in place even though they aren't overly tightened.

If you call them I betthey will fax, email, or send you a hard copy. This was likely an oversite. Good Luck.

I was thinking there were some torque specs listed in a shop manual for these trucks? Have you tried the search option?

The torque specs are for the original rubber mounts, I don't think they would be accurate now that he has switched to the aftermarket polyurethane kit. I agree about the searching, there's lots of info on this subject.

Thanks Long Roof. I replaced my mounts almost a year ago and wasn't sure the specs.Still in the middle of build so just snugged them up. Asked in a previous thread but no reply, knew someone would post specs sooner or later.

A couple more pics. the only rust on this was in the upper right window frame. For 20.00 bucks the guy at the junk yard let me sawzall out the corner of a perfectly good cab, so I could replace the rusty stuff.
