Re: Lower control arm ball joint question

I ended up using a small grinder to cut the rivets on mine

Re: Lower control arm ball joint question

My 65 is a press in. It was stubbern at first so I got a bigger hammer. From what I've seen c10 and c20 are both press in lowers and bolt in uppers.

Re: Lower control arm ball joint question

I hit both of mine less than 5 times each with a 3lb sledge hammer and they fell out. When in doubt, get a bigger hammer. Your not going to hurt the control arm, whack the s**t out of it.

Re: Lower control arm ball joint question

I know the upper had been changed, not sure about the lower. I supported the control arm with 2 floor jacks, 1 inside the arm towards center and 1 outside at the edge. Now when I say "5 whacks" we are talkin full swing man whacks hitting the stud part as hard as possable. I am 265lbs, I can whack something pretty hard. I also had the front clip off the truck, so I kinda cheated.

Re: Lower control arm ball joint question

I used one of the large C-clamp deals to remove my ball joints but could not get them back in using the same tool. Had to use a press.... mite have been easier if the control arms were mounted; in case you have trouble.

Re: Lower control arm ball joint question

On my 60 I drilled the original rivet out, ground it flat, used large hammer to punch them out. Then got a larger sledge hammer and got the job done.

Good luck, it sucked for me.
