Engine tie-downs?

I recall seeing somewhere a thread about an odd engine mount looking thing on a frame...

I searched and couldnt find it... however today, while changing my spark plugs, I saw this and wondered if these are those, and why the heck they are still there.

Anyone? Why else would I have metal cable in there?

Re: Engine tie-downs?

Those are there to keep the engine from torquing over in case of an engine mount failure. These motor mounts were know to come apart and when you rev the engine the engine would lift. On some models the accelerator linkage would stick when this happened, causing far bigger problems.

Re: Engine tie-downs?

My 69 had those. I left them off when I replaced the motor, still have them in the shop though
